In my compositional work I usually collaborate with creative people from various fields: documentary and drama film makers, theatre directors, moving image artists, radio producers, choreographers and musicians. I need an occasion to produce work and treat finding a social context for a work as part of the compositional process. I used to play the flute and came to composing via musicology, in particular post war European art music and electroacoustic music. I compose sound itself based on technical analysis and synthesis or through instrumental and vocal timbres. I often combine sampled acoustic sounds, whether environmental or instrumental with live-performed music. My approach goes beyond disciplines. Music and sound design for film has been a long interest. My question is how to create atmospheres in various contexts - in performance, theatre, dance, sound translocations, architectural heritage and ecological enterprise. In my research I am interested in how I can apply insights to finding solutions for creating artistic work. In that sense my research is focused on practice and based on it.
